The Golden Sage

The Golden Sage collection is an original work created by Ekin in collaboration with renowned Thangka master Golog Sherab, whose lifelong dedication to Tibetan Buddhist painting has helped preserve and advance one of the Himalayan world's most revered artistic traditions. Recognized as a national representative inheritor of Thangka painting, Golog Sherab continues a lineage in which artistic mastery is inseparable from cultural heritage and spiritual practice.

At the center of the composition is Śākyamuni Buddha, the historical Buddha and the founding teacher of Buddhism. For centuries, images of the Buddha have occupied a central place in the Thangka tradition, serving not only as objects of devotion but also as carefully constructed expressions of harmony, compassion, and inner awakening.

The composition is realized through Ekin's proprietary Gold Kesi technique, translating the precision of Thangka painting into a richly textured surface of precious metal. Preserving the vibrant mineral palette that defines the Thangka tradition—deep reds, luminous blues, and rich greens—the work uses gold selectively to illuminate the Buddha, sacred ornament, and architectural details. The dialogue between precious metal and color creates a composition that feels equally luminous in daylight and richly contemplative in more subdued light. The collection also incorporates finely sculpted relief, introducing a subtle sense of dimensionality that enhances the presence of the Buddha while echoing the carved decoration found throughout Himalayan temples and ritual objects. These layered surfaces enrich the visual depth of the composition while preserving the clarity and refinement of the original artwork.

Drawing upon Golog Sherab's mastery of Thangka painting and Ekin's contemporary Gold Kesi technique, the work celebrates the enduring richness of Himalayan Buddhist art while exploring new possibilities for expressing its color, craftsmanship, and spiritual beauty through a contemporary medium.
